what are you trying to check and why

G'day got another question regarding the daewoo leganza when you test battery with multimeter it test at just on 12 v but when you put multimeter from positive side of battery and negetive to ground like on engine block voltage increases 13.1 v so I changed earth wire from from negetive side of battery still the same thing no change why is that? What do you suggest?
