Vibrating at 40-45 mph

Car is only vibrating at 40-45 mph. It only does it when pressing on accelerator, once you let go the shaking stops. And as soon as the car switches gears it stops. It is a FWD and has about 180000 miles on it. We have replaced the spark plugs, all wires, tires are new and have just been balanced. It just started all the sudden about 2 weeks ago.

After what we have done so far it's better but not gone. Could it be the fuel filter? If not (or even if so) what else could it be. You can feel the vibration throughout the whole front of the car.

Do you feel it is an engine miss, transmission related... Also, have you checked motor mounts for wear? Sometimes when the mounts get old, the rubber bushings wear out and you can actually feel vibrations from the engine. You may want to check that. Also, usually a misfire will set the check engine light. If that is on, have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free.

No trouble codes. I *think* we changed the transmission mount in this car about a year ago, it was bad. I don't *think* it's misfiring, but not positive about that. You can feel it shifting gears and as soon as it does bam- no vibrating anymore.

We are worried it's the transmission but are hoping we can find another explanation- can't afford to fix/replace the transmission.

And I know we changed one motor mount because we were having another problem before, less than a year ago. It was in the front of the car.

I understand about the transmission. I couldn't afford it either. However, based on your description, it sound related to the driveline. If the vibration goes away when you let off the gas, it's in the driveline. I would suggest checking all motor mounts, CV joints, axles... If they are okay, I hate to say it, but the trans needs to be considered. Make sure the fluid is clean and full.

I can tell you the transmission fluid is NOT clean. We tried to drain as much as we could but we couldn't get it all out so I know it's dirty. We will check all those things and go from there. Thank you. I'll check back after we figure it out.
