When I mash my brake pedal my brake light comes on for a second but goes off when I come to a complete stop. If I mash down harder while still at a complete stop the brake lights start back working?

check the fluid level first in the master. if you continue to mash the pedal, you will cause damage to the master cylinder

replace the stop light switch
