Fuel Pump relay?

Several Issues I will start from beginning. Steering Column had issues because the shifter was hard to take out of Drive. Truck died and would not start, replaced the fuel pump but still not receiving power. Noticed that the instrument panel gauges are stuck all forward and the truck will shift manually without any effort as if the brake was depressed. Per advice of a backyard mechanic got a used computer from a wrecking yard and made sure that all the numbers matched up no change. Put back original computer.

I have a suspicion that it it has something to do with the steering column but I am not sure.

Other symptoms have a P040 and P041 Code may be unrelated but have replaced mufflers and 02 sensors.
Rear Brake light turns off when the brakes are hit replaced bulb.

These may not be related but this is all I can think of.

computers are vin specific meaning they have to be programmed to your vehicle. check ground on back of frame drivers side for brake lights. it's probably corroded and not making contact so lights go out. if the column was replaced check wires to make sure they are all the correct ones as different years change on these. the diode on your truck key may not match the ignition switch so it won't start. if you have the anti theft light see pic for instructions on how to reset. the codes are incorrect and need another number to get what they are.you'll have to get it scanned because it may be the fuel control module as well. Here is the fuel pump relay location below. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Original column. Just worked the other day. Original cpu. On fuel pump relay switch replaced and still will not click. Diode 87 with an electrical tester turns on when grounded. DIODE 87 does not light up when turning over key. Any suggestions?

the instruction s I sent in pic should cure the anti theft problem I 'm sure that is what is stopping your fuel . did you try that at all? if not that then it's going to have to be scanned to see what has happened to security system pulling the computer and replacing it then replacing it again did not help things actually. you mayhave to do the sequence like it says in pic if not it may need a scanner to fix it.

It has a passlock system that does not seem to be on tried it and nothing. Hooked up OBDII meter and it does not recognize that ignition is on what you think. I know this OBDII works on this truck that is how I got the original codes

I don't know what to tell you then. Best thing is to let a local pro look at it. It kind of sounds like the pcm isn't sending the signal to engage the relay so the engine will run. check the dark grn/white wire and see if it is getting power in fuse box if it is then the spade on relay may have to be bent for better contact or it's bad the one in fuse box or the connection is bad at pcm.

you don't think that the blinker not working, The fuel pump not activating, the instrument cluster not working and the ObdII reader saying iigniton is of has anything to do with ignition switch? I am not sure but I thought id bring it up

the dash could be just bad as they are digital but it's worth a try ignition switches do go bad. have you check checked ign fuse E in under hood fuse box? that powers up the fuel pump module which also powers fuel sender gauge. the dash power comes from tans fuse and gauge fuse in ip fuse panel. which is fuse 4 & 20 in the ip fuse box. Have you checked all ignition and ecm fuses in the under hood fuse box with a test light or voltmeter?

I have done quite a bit of work to troubleshoot the problem to no avail.

I have electricity at relay at hood location. I swapped relay with other same type of relay and did not have any good luck. New fuel pump installed (I still have bed of truck off. Replaced fuel pump initially; old filter was not blocked. I am not getting electric at fuel pump connector.

There is electric at fuel gauge connector at new fuel pump. Is there a fuse in addition to the relay? If so, how is it labeled? If this is not the problem, what do you suggest?

Thanks,

you mean you did not test for power at relay? simple 12v test light would do that.

Do you have power at the switched circuit of the fuel pump relay when the key is turned on?

Make sure ECM B fuse is good.
Make sure you have a good ground for relay terminal 86.
Make sure the wire to relay terminal 85 shows 12 volts when key is turned on.
Make sure you have constant 12 volts at relay terminal 87.

I replaced the fuel pump, relays, filter, and fuses, but the fuel pump is not kicking in unless I hook it directly to the battery terminal. The fuel pump is getting power, but still not priming.

The DR GRN/WHT wire is the only one with 12 volts. Thanks for the other tips. I will check them in the morning and get back to you.

I checked the terminals. all is correct voltage. ECM-B fuse is good with 12 volts present. The relay was the first thing replaced. Then the pump and filter. The PCM was last.

Check and see if the pump has voltage to it when you first turn the key to crank.

Check for a broken terminal inside the fuel pump module connector. Ohm test the terminals from the module to the pump connector.

When I got the new fuel pump it came with a new pig tail. The old connection has been replaced. Is there a way to hot wire the pump from the relay to test it.

I have a 98 Z-71. It was idling and suddenly stopped. Now, when you turn the key on, the fuel pump does not make any noise. The vehicle spins over but does not fire. The relay is not clicking like it did before. I put it in another vehicle and worked fine. Is there a fuse somewhere other than the fuse box for the fuel pump? Or is there a reason why the fuel pump relay would quit working but would still be ok in another vehicle?

-fuel pump bad

HI:
It doesn't sound like the relay is the problem. I think your fuel pump went out. Check fuel pump pressure. If you need the tools, most nationally recognized parts stores will rent them to you.

Let me know what pressure you get.

Have a 1998 Chevy 2-wheel drive, 8 cylinder with 150,000m. Truck will crank and run a couple of seconds and shut off. Was told fuel pump had been replaced. If it does run, so far it will run fine until shut off. Have replaced fuel relay and ran fine for a week. Hear fuel pump when key turned on and off.

Sir
You can hear the pump all day-but if its not producing the correct pressure nothing is gonna happen-You need to check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge to nail the regulator/pump. Even if you have the correct pressure if the injector/s are not energizing, again we won't have fuel.

My truck was running perfectly until yesterday when the engine stopped suddenly. Power stearing went out and everything. I coasted to the curb and parked. It turns over but will not start. I can hear the fuel pump in the gas tank humming when I try to start it. I pulled the air filter and it is bone dry, even after trying to start it several times. My local Auto Zone does not have the fuel pump relay I need. Am I stuck till it gets in stock?

The fuel pump is coming on tells me the relay is good but is it producing the correct fuel pressure and is it getting injection pulses and does it have spark.

If you have the spider fuel system, I don't think you can see anything by removing the air filter. The info I looked at was a K1500 4.3 liter engine.

If you think it is fuel, you might check fuel pressure first. Some of the national brand autostores will loan fuel pressure gages. You might have to put up a deposit, but, you get it back, when you return the tool.

A quick check to see if its fuel or spark is to take some carb cleaner and spray in the air intake while someone cranks the engine if it runs while you spray its a fuel problem if it doesnt run you have a spark problem.
