I am looking to buy a 1999 chevy sliverado z71 for $ 5400 but it needs a new catalytic converter. How much would that cost and is it worth the amount they are asking?

Take it to an exhaust specialty shop. The can likely custom fit an aftermarket Cat for under $200.
