A friend of mine asked me to do a head gasket for him on his s 10. The curious thing he said was that anti-freeze was coming out by the #3 cylinder. After I pulled the head off I could see alot of wear on the head gasket but nothing to indicate a leak otherwise. Does anyone have a thought as to what it might have been?

It could have a cracked block or head. Is he sure it was coming out in that area? Could it have been a bad freeze plug?

If it was coming out by the #3 cylinder, there really isn't anything other there. How high on the engine was the coolant? Also, is he sure it was the #3 cylinder? Could a hose or anything else in that area have leaked or sprayed?

Well I replaced the head (and gasket) and now it has no spark. So until I have it running I won't know if it still leaks.

Let me know what you find. As far as spark, make sure the crank sensor wasn't damaged or left disconnected during the work. Also, make sure you have power to the coil.

That isn't good. Not even enough to run. I bet the head was warped.
