automatic transmission dipstick

I have a 1999 BMW 528I with the inline 6 cylinder with the automatic transmission. The tranny is slipping and I am wondering where the darn dipstick is located? Does the powersteering pump and transmission run together?

The transmission does not have a dipstick. The level is checked through a level plug on the right side of the transmission main housing. The transmission fluid is unique to BMW, using the wrong fluid will ruin the transmission. You may wish to have the transmission inspected by a professional.

Get the vehicle on level surface.

Remove the plug that DR. HAGERTY mentioned,

Fluid should start to "OOZE" out of the hole (meaning the level is fine)

If no fluid comes out, add the "correct" fluid until it does begin to 'creep' out of the hole, quickly reinstall the plug.

I am posting a few pics of my 1977 JEEP CJ-5 Manual transmission (it's fill hole on the side) and the $5 pump from an auto parts store I use to fill it the EZ way. THIS IS FLUID FOR MY JEEP-NOT WHAT YOU USE! (I've had these pics a long time to help Jeep people)

Basically, The Check and Fill technique is the same as yours, Your transmission is a lot different looking!
