need help with motor mount

I have replace my water pump on my 1998 vw beetle and now i cant get the passenger side motor mount put back in ..i have to work in the morning ! thanks so much I have jacked the motor up to get it out and then lowered it to get in back in and the motor mount just wont go back in for nothing !

gotta maybe shift things around with 2x4?

Most VW tech's leave the mount hanging there so that we don't have to run into this problem. It's difficult to re/re the mount bracket on beetles. My recommendation, undo the bottom dogbone mount bolts (2 16mm) this will prevent excess strain on the mount. Now jack up the engine as high as you can. You have to put it in from the top. Eventually, you'll get it in with some wiggling. If you can't, very gently move the a/c line a tad to give you the extra space.

ok, that did the trick, now it wont start, it cranks over but wont start, any suggestions ? thanks so much.

The timing is most likely out. First, set the cam to TDC, now on the driver side, find the flywheel cut-out, that's where the timing mark is for the crankshaft. Make sure it lines up with the mark on the bell housing. If it doesn't, take off the belt and align the marks.
