I'm getting a service engine code of P0706. It sounds like my car is revved up in a high gear the second you turn it on, and my gas mileage is terrible lately. My RPM gauge doesn't work so I can't tell anything by that. The gauge stays fallen under the 8 mark all the way at the bottom, it doesn't move when you turn the car on, but every now and then it will jump to 7 then fall back down. Occasionally my car has trouble shifting to reverse, and it will***** really hard.

It sounds like you have at least three problems lets start with the transmission issues and go from there. So you only have a code P0706?No other code's?DO you have a multimeter?

I don't have a multimeter. No other codes. I've brought it to Autozone a few times. Also a few weeks ago, I was having a hard time starting it. It would usually start if you pumped the gas really hard, but this problem has completely went away. I don't know if that may be relevant.

The starting concern having to hold your gas pedal to the floor to start it is usually a bad coolant temp sensor. Also inspect the connector going to the sensor if its corroded it will have to be replaced as well. You will need a multimeter to trouble shoot this one.SO does the code come back right away if you clear it?You most likely have a bad selector/Neutral safety switch. Also check and see if that single ground wire going to the selector/Neutral is hooked up.Its located straight down from your brake master cylinder.

Once they cleared it I didn't see it for about a week. It goes off and on intermittently on its own. I'm going to check the ground wire and see if we have a multimeter and get back to you. Thanks so much!

So are you only getting the code P0706 Still? How often does the code set or does it act up and how long will it act up for?

Last week it showed up.for about 4 days and sounded terrible. It's still the only code. About two weeks ago I put it in reverse and it went forward. I had to put it in and out of park about 3 times, but that's the only time its ever done that. It shifts hard occasionally as my speed changes but not all the time. Other times it runs amazing.

Its going to be down to the wires pcm or selector switch itself. It says to check adjustment but i feel those are your possible causes. The problem is the first step is to when its acting up to use a scan tool that can read live transmission data on that car you would make sure that the pcm was reading all the gears correctly on the scan tool screen instead of invaild or grounded. If you don't have access to that scan tool the only thing i think you can really try is what i posted when its acting up and the code is active.Check those wires to see if they have the voltage they say with the key in the run position and also inspect the tiring connectors etc.If all that checks out then replace the selector switch. If you replace the selector switch let me know so i can tell you how to adjust it.The selector switch is right below the brake master cylinder where the shifter cable connects to the transmission. The only other choice you have is to take it somewhere to have it looked at.
