1998 Saturn Sedan Overheating

So high is the temp gauge when it overheats?Also are you assuming its overheating because its boiling over the cap? What temp on the gauge does the fan come on?

Yes the fan comes on and the car runs funny, sluggish. I let the steam out by loosening the top hose and sliding the screwdriver in. The fluid is hot. I even took all hoses off today and made sure that nothing was clogged. I took the thermostat out today to see if it would run hot and it did. I flushed the system and nothing worked. I notice that alot of people have the same problem with these Saturn's. The temp gauge rises to the red after about 15 or 20 minutes of driving. I have no idea what the problem could be. Please help.

For starters never open the cap when its hot and especially never loosen a radiator hose or any hose when its hot thats a good way to get burned.Also when the radiator fan comes what is the temp gauge reading you never answered that question on the last reply i gave you?

Also what the brand and part number of the coolant temp sensor you put in?

The gauge is over 3/4, almost at red on the gauge when the fan comes on.The temp sensor is a valucraft SU1131VC, from Autozone.

It shows thats the correct sensor but if you have a 1998 saturn S model the fan should be turning on with the gauge showing just above half way.That would be around 222-226 degrees Fahrenheit.So i would try a different sensor i always get the duralast coolant temp sensors from auto zone.There lifetime warranty and those sensor only last a year or two usually.Also do you have a little code reader that reads live engine data like coolant temp?

I dont have a meter but I think that I can rent one at Autozone. One wire is black which should be ground, so the other one should be positive.

No one wire is. Signal and the other wire is a return as far as a multi-meter iam not talking about that.Iam talking about a little code reader that can read trouble codes and some live engine data like coolant temp.That way you could see if it matches actual temp of the coolant with a infared temp gun which i have seen at sams club and costco sometimes for as little as 20.For the infared temp gun iam talking about.I would try a different temp sensor like i suggest to start with before going to the next step.
