Saturn wont start

I had to replace the head gasket and that turned out successful but im not sure if the TDC is right on the Harmonic Balancer. but i put everthing back together and tried to start her nd nothing. she wants to turn but isnt i might have the timing off. if someone can assist me on what i should do. im taking the timing wall off to reset the TDC so hopefully that does it.

Put the engine no.1 piston on its compressiion stroke/TDC and align the cam and crank to its marking as indicated in the repair manual

Well i have the chilton manual and i cant find anything on TDC or im just not looking hard enough

Those are the easiest engines to time they habe colored links on the timing chain dowl holes you can line up with a drill bit.Do you still need timing marks diagram?

Ok thanks i assembled it and tried to start it and it sounds better. But wont start the guys at the auto shop recommend i use a little starter fluid since it hasnt been started n a long time. im not sure...

If you pop off the valve cover you can check the timing that way you dont have to remove the front cover.Check the timing and let me know what you find.Also those cars are known for bad coolant temp sensor and those cause no starts.Also the connectors to them get corroded as well and have to be replaced.Let me know what you find and we will go from there.

Its below the upper radiator hose screwed into the head with two wires going to it a yellow wire and a black wire.Also inspect the inside of the connector if the terminals are green or blue instead of silver you will have to replace the connector also.The sensors are only like 10-11.

Alright i checked the sensor and it looks fine. I started the car but it wouldnt stay running. At one point the car kept running and we werent feeding it gas but when we tried to press the gas again to just see what happens the car shuts off. I dnt have the valve cover on all the way could that possibly be the issue??

The valve cover not being on all the way wouldnt cause it not to run.The vacuum line was hooked up to the pcv correct?Also did you check the timing?If so what did you find?Also how did you check the coolant temp sensor?With a multimeter?Did you inspect the connector?

The vacuum line is hooked up to the intake manifold rite? I do not have a multimetter i just visually inspected. And the timing is right thanks to wat u sent me. what do u mean by the connector?

Yes the the vacuum hose goes from the intake manifold to the pcv.You cant visually inspect a coolant temp sensor sometimes you can see that the plastic sensor tipped cracked.You have to use a multimeter to ohms check them and compare the ohms reading to temp and see if its within range.Its really common for them to go bad i have replaced hundreds of bad ones.I have gone thru 3 sensors so far on my 1999 saturn SL2 that i have owned for 5yrs now.The sensors are only 10-11 so if you want to try one there not expensive.Otherwise get a multimeter and lets check the old one.As far as the connector i was talking about the one going to the coolant temp sensor.The inside of connector will have the terminals they should have silver terminals if there blue or green then you will habe to replace the connector.Because that would mean you have corroded terminals.Also have you checked your fuel pressure?I would do that also just to elimnate a fuel pressure problem.

Also have you checked to make sure you didnt mix up your spark plug wire order?To check the fuel pressure you would go to a auto parts store like auto zone rent a fuel pressure gauge.Then screw the hose onto the nipple on the fuel line going to the injector rail.Then turn the key on to the run position wait a few seconds then repeat and see what the gauge reads.

Wires out of order will run bad real bad no start depends on how bad the order is off.Look at you emissions label on the radiator core support above your radiator under the hood.On it will show your coil towers wire the correct order the spark plug wires.The cylinder closest to your coolant bottle is cylinder number 1 then going to the drivers side it goes 2 3 4 cylinders.The fuel pressure should be 40-55 psi.Let me know what you find.

The fuel pressure is usually about 45psi on that car keep me posted.

Hey i have good news the saturn successfully started but the sensor i think is completely broken so i have to get a new one. I have to replace all the valve cover bolts tho. I have another question for you though

Just checked the sparks. pieced together the sensor and cranked the engine and it started and idled perfectly. I turned it off and to see if it was a fluke but it wasnt. But the question is how do i fix a high voltage in a fuel pump??

Ok you have me confused what do mean a high voltage in the fuel pump?So you had a broken coolant temp sensor causing a no start that makes sense.The engine would flood with a broken sensor.Please clarify this high voltage to the fuel pump because the alternator only produces 13-14 volts.

Well its not my car i was running a diagnostic on a vehicle and pulled a code which came up to be high voltage. I asked a teacher at the college i go to (NTC) and he told me it was a high voltage in the wire set connecting to the fuel pump
