1998 SC2 shutting off

When the engine is hot or cold do you ever have to hold your gas pedal all the way to the floor to start the engine?Also any code's?You could have a bad coolant temp sensor.Do you have a scan tool that can read live engine data?

No I dont have to hold the pedal down it just shuts off and then cranks right back up. It feels like the gas isnt getting to it fast enough or something. would the coolant temp sensor make it over heat because it doesnt over heat.

The problem with 1996 and up saturn S model's like yours is they started using only one temps sender for the gauge and computer.So when they go bad your engine could be running hot and won't show on the gauge.A bad sensor cause's all kind's of different symptoms the sensor's are only 10 way cheaper then all the stuff you have already tried.Also inspect the connector going to it if it's corroded it will have to be replaced as well.If you had scan tool that was able to read live engine data then i could tell you how to test it.Do you have a temp gun and a multimeter?If you do i could tell you how to test it that way also.

ok so i need to have the mechanic check the coolant tempsensor. Is that the only sensor that it could be?

It would be just cheaper to replace the coolant temp sensor yourself then pay someone to test it there only 10.Also the connector if the terminal's are green or a blue color bad connector.It could be other sensor's bu the coolant temp sensor's very commonly fail on those car's.Do you have any code's?

No I don't have any codes. when it was pt on the little machine before when the service engine light was on it gave the code for the throttle control or the idol control sensor. could it be those?

I wish i knew the exact code number's you had?There is no throttle control on that engine it has a throttle cable.You have a throttle position sensor.Your throttle position sensor could affect take off.But if it was bad affecting it every time it would usually set a code.You would have to test it with a multimeter or watch the voltage sweep using a scan tool as you press the gas .You also have a idle control valve if that was bad it would only affect the idle not when taking off.

Thanks for the info. One other thing though.... My mechanic now has the vehicle back. He is saying that the problem is that when he changed the engine (and put a newer engine in)he had to put the fuel injectors from my old engine into this one now he needs to change the fuel injectors and that will fix the shuttng off. Does that sound like it could be the problem? and if so, wouldn't that mean that he didn't really put in a different engine?

What was the engine replaced for?So he want's to put the fuel injectors from the newer engine in?Or just new 1998 sc2 fuel injector's?Also what year was the engine he put in?I don't think all the fuel injector's are causing the engine to shut down.

The engine was replaced because it was mixing the oil and water together. So he put in what he said was a 2000 engine that only had 73,000 miles on it and a new computer but when I got the car back it was still shutting off at acceleration. He took it back and said he put the fuel injectors from my old engine in it because the others didnt fit but now he has to change them and then he has to have the computer reset again and that should fix the problem.

So you have a single overhead cam engine the head's crack on those and allow the oil to mix with the coolant.Those two engine's have different intake manifold's.So why did he change the computer?
