startin car, idle

my 1998 trans am, automatic, is havin trouble startin every other time or so, then idles very oddly, and resets my clock time..........the battery is fine

Whehn you say trouble starting, are you saying it cranks good but won't start, or it won't even crank? How long since a tune-up? Any applicable codes?

it cranks pretty good, but won't start.........haven't gotten a tune up since 25,00 miles ago. and there are no codes or lights on

If it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the plugs. To check for spark at the plugs, You pull a spark plug wire loose, use a spark tester or known good spark plug in the boot. Ground/touch the metal part of tester to metal part of engine, watch for spark. If you have spark everywhere, use a fuel pressure gage and check fuel pressure.

Also, you may need to clean throttle body and idle air control.
