1998 Mitsubishi Magna not starting

well to start, did you swap all sensors from the old engine to the new one? ive gotten burned by not doing that before.... also, is this a used motor? do a compression test.... its possible you got a bad used motor.... it happens.... keep us updated.

It is a used motor, compression done and all good. Sensors were swapped except for CSA but am getting spark fine. There was an issue with the dizzy, the coil pack had been forced off but spark is coming through fine. Have run out of thoughts of what it could be. Did double check the timing as it was out, but have now sorted that.Ideas??

the timing was out? ignition, or mechanical? as long as there is spark, and fuel, it should atleast sputter....

Originally the crankshaft was about 10degrees out with the camshafts line up on the correct timing marks, now corrected. It has tried to splutter sometimes but mostly just turns over.Have checked again for codes but still nothing.

ok, im trying to look up a 1998 mitsubishi magna.... i dont have a listing for this..... to be honest, i havnt heard of a magna either. is this a galant? also, what size engine.

It is a TF magna with the 6g72 motor, 3.0litre v6

the 3.0 is an interference engine.... what were your compression readings???? also, did you ever pull the distributor out? its possible you could have spark, but its not firing at the correct time, indication your ignition timing is off.... verify correct firing order, then check the distributor.

Yes it is an australian model. The distributor was taken out but it will only go back in onew way. Timing is correct for that model, 1,2,3,4,5,6.

so on the used engine, you stated the crankshaft was off 10 degrees? i have no info on this vehicle from my source, but i am familiar with the engine.... this is a timing belt engine... the used one should have ran before you bought it.... if the timing is off, this throws a red flag.... either your not lining up the right marks, or whoever installed the belt prior to u getting this engine was off....

Yes agreed, whoever changed the belt did not do it properly. All timings marks were corrected and a new belt installed according to the workshop manual.

ok, have you had a chance to do a compression test yet... still waiting on the numbers

No, not needed, found the issue 2 spark plug leads on the back bank were bad, replaced them and it fired first go. Thanks for all your help though.
