My 1998 Mercury Sable Air Conditioner stopped blowing cold air, what could the problems be?

We've used this as lateas late last week. The Air and defroster both seem to not be "cutting in" where it sort of drags on the motor! The air is not too hot but not cold at all! FYI - The weather isn't too hot around her, 60's & 70's in afternoon!
