Does oil leak/seal have anything to do with timing belt?

I took my old 1998 Merc to mechanic as it leaking oil. He said he'd fix/seal, now the car has a new problem, no power at take off, rough idle, quivering all the time and stops in idle. Mechanic says it's the timing belt, but this was not there before the oil seal job. Can I trust him with my car & go back to him?

Well, that just depends on which seal he was replacing. There are seals all over the engine. Some would require timing belt removal and many are not related at all.

If the seal replaced is timing belt related, the mechanic should be responsible for it as he did not do a good job reinstalling the belt.
