I have owned my Town Car for 7 years and up until 2 years ago never had a problem with the brake switch needing to be replaced. But I have the last 2 years.
The problem is this: the car starts fine but when I go to put it into drive...I can not! The gear shift literally will not leave Park !
To get the car into drive, I have to shut the car off...turn the key to the first notch...then start car before I can drop it into drive.
All the while I am driving like this without any brake lights!
The funny thing is, most of the time everything is fine. Just now and then does this problem occur.
I have replaced the 20 AMP fuse as well as the brake switch itself but this problem still happens now and again.
Has anyone experienced this ? If so, what did you do to fix this issue?
Thanks!

you could have a busing missing and or just a cheap switch that causes this. however have your shift interlock checked as well.
