It shut down While driving?

I have a 1998 hyndai Accent. Yesterday , It shut down While driving. Would not start battery dead.Had car towed home. I charged charged the battery. I started the car . I removed the positive cable on battery. I thought it might be Altenator but car not cut off. What would it be do not wont a nother tow charge . Can you help . Jeff

Hello,

It sounds like you have a faulty crankshaft position sensor.
A bad crank position sensor can stall the engine while driving. After the stall it may or may not start back up.
Many times these faults happen when the sensor is hot due to the engine being at operating temperature, it will send error signal to the ECM and the engine will stall. Then it can start back up after everything cools.
