1998 Honda Passport Running problem

The car will start first turn of the key and once it is in "park" it ticks over and revs ok. However, as soon as it's put into "drive" it looses all power and it is very difficult to stop it from cutting out. It also does the same as soon as the engine heats up. I've replaced the fuel regulator and the fuel pressure is fine
It sounds like it's choking for fuel but I don't believe that's the problem, any ideas?

Is the Malfunction Indicator Light showing?
Was anything done prior to this occurring?
What is the idling speed?

Thank you for getting back to me.
The check engine light is on, no other warning lights and once the engine gets warm, it won't tick over. When cold, just after starting, it runs at about 1400rpm.
Also, if it's put in drive the engine dies. Could the oxy sensor make the engine malfunction if it was not working correctly.

I forgot to mention that prior to this problem no work had been done on the engine. The first sigh of the problem was when the power just faded during normal driving and I had to keep pumping the gas just to keep the car moving at around 20 to 25 mph. ?

You need to retrieve the trouble code to find out what is triggering the MIL.

I live quite a distance from the nearest garage that could provide a diagnostic for my car. Due to the fact that my car is incapable of getting there I thought you could help me. If I knew or had any way of retrieving the trouble code, do you think for one minute that I'd be asking you the questions I've asked.

We always like to start with a check for trouble codes. Today's vehicles have so many sensors you could spend a lot of money taking stabs at a problem. I'm very glad to hear you were able to get your vehicle fixed, especially first on the first guess.
