98 Civic - Cannot Open Hatch

The hatch of my 98 Honda Civix hatchback would not open.
The lock/unlock button goes up and down when I use the key, the handle seems to be O.K. but the door stays locked. I tried to locate the emergency hatch release. Couldn't find one. Please tell me how to open the trunk.

There is no emergency release for the hatch. You would have to get into the vehicle from the back seats and remove the hatch trims. With hatch closed, it is not going to be easy and might require som force to twist the trim out.

Seems something had dislodged and preventing the lock from opening. Possibly the actuator has dislodged due to a bad clip .
