I was told by my mechanic that my Jimmy needs new hub bearings, and that he only puts GM factory hub bearings on because the other aftermarket hub bearings malfunction with the ABS system. He wants to charge $460 for each side ($320 being the hub bearing). I checked with places like JCWhitney and can get them for around $150 each instead of $320. More important than the cost is the idea that only GM factory hub bearings can be used safely. Is this true? I can't find anyone else who has heard of this. $150 versus $320 each is a lot. Thank you.

I agree with Tech most after market hubs are non USA made mainly China and are junk. Try NAPA they carry a good hub

Don't forget that he is also marking up the parts as he is entitled to.

The mechanic was telling me that they had to order directly from GM, and couldn't even use NAPA.

Just to add to this one alot of the factory hubs and bearings are made by timken or federal moug. You could always find another person to replace the hub if you cant afford the prices of the parts from them. There labor should only change because of the difference in shop labor rate. You might be able to find someone that you can bring your own parts to have them replace them.
