door latch hits plate

Check to make sure the latch isn't in the lock position. Pull the handle to open it and see if you can move the latch. If that doesn't work, see if you can manually get it the latch to lock. If it won't, it needs replaced or there is a linkage issue inside the door. Remove the inner door panel and check for disconnected, bent or broken rods.
