When lights fails, how did you get them to come back on?
How often does it occurs and how long does it last?
Have you tried checking the fuses and wirings?

sometimes they will just go back on, sometimes if i hit the dash they will come back on. fuses are good wiring? thought maybe it was a ground so i regrounded the main things, today i will re ground the dash to the body. and check the terminals at the back of the switch for corrosion or heat.

From the wiring diagram I do not see any taillight relays so I believe the problem is due to a loose connection somewhere as vibrations to the dash works sometimes.

so where are the grounds under the dash located, then i could check them and not miss any. Yes i thought maybe a relay, but when i went to the parts store they did not list any, does the switch then have the relay built in?

No, the system does not have any relays incorporated.

Attached is the schematic with the description of the ground locations.
