The charging system is the likely suspect. That's what keeps the battery charged. It's important to understand that due to this design that GM has used since 1987, the generators develop huge voltage spikes that can damage the internal diodes and voltage regulator, and interfere with computer sensor signals. The battery is the main component in damping and absorbing those spikes, but as they age and the lead flakes off the plates, they lose their ability to do that. It's common to go through four to six generators in the life of the car, but to reduce that number of repeat failures, replace the battery at the same time unless it is less than about two years old.
