My 98 chevy lumina ran out of gas now i cant get it to start

Ran out fo gas tried jumping and tapping starter ..has lights radio and will click once thats it

my 1st step would be to check battery terminals remove both clean and tighten
check for a bad ground
when jumping place the ground on motor
