I have a cavalier ls all the keys are regular keys(no chips)starts and runs great if temperature does not drop below 40 degrees. if below 40 will start run a few seconds then shut down. will then restart and do same thing. tried several things fould if we apply heat on drivers side of car under steering column to raise temp above 40 it then fires right up.theft system lights lights up and stays lit for several seconds.

Get a scan done to check for trouble codes codes first. Since vehicle could be started, it might not be a problem with the anti-theft system.

At the ignition switch there is the Passlock lock cylinder and that could be the one causing the problem.

Try this to see if it works.

PROGRAMMING

PASSWORD LEARN PROCEDURE

NOTE: Password must be learned when IPC or ignition switch is
replaced.

Attempt to start vehicle. Leave ignition on until THEFT SYSTEM indicator turns off (approximately 10 minutes). Turn ignition switch off. Attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle starts, password is learned.
