Hello,

It sounds like the temperature blend door actuator is not working. Here are two guides to help walk us through the repair and how to check other possible problems. the location of the actuator is in the diagrams below.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/replace-blend-door-motor

and

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-heater-not-working

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Hi:
If I remember correctly, the rear heat only works in conjunction with the front. If the fan isn't working in the front, check for power to the switch.

Let me know what you find.

hi, i had the same problem with my van, no heat, i was on a trip down in virginia and the water pump went out, so i got it fixed, and the mechanic told me that the antifreeze that gm puts in their auto's the yellow stuff, eats seals. the mechanic replaced the water pump and put the green antifreeze in and i've had heat ever since

First, are you getting power to the blower motor that you replaced? Have you checked the blower motor relay and resister?

Let me know.

Just wondering what the best way to get to the heater core is on my van. There is some heat coming through but not enough to make it comfortable. I'm assuming that the core is either plugging off or there is some obstruction in the housing. Any advice is much appreciated.

Why don't you replace the thermostat for a start and see what happens. also check if it has a heater control valve that controls heated coolant going thru the heater core-

I replaced the thermostat already and it made no difference. Is there a way to check the control valve?

Vacuum leak most likely. Check the front of the engine area for a small black nylon tube that probably has 1 or more holes in it. Pretty common on Astro's.

Hi:
To check the switch, you will need to check for power in and out of the switch. Also, make sure all connections are clean and tight.

Let me know what you find.

Check or replace thermostat again and also the heater core if its clogged-up if okay could be coming from behind the dash with doors/vacuum/actuators problems or the HVAC control module itself

My Astro only blows cold air from the front. Rear heater works fine. The blower works as advertised, as does the selector (although I did replace a rotted section of vacuum tube across the intake a while back when it failed and I had defrost only). Coolant level is fine. Engine temp is normal.

Both hoses from the control valve to the front heater core remain cold. Would this be an indication of faulty control valve? blocked heater core? Should I be looking at something else?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi:
If both hoses are cold, there is no circulation to the core. Check to see if there is a heater control valve on one of the heater core hoses. If not, you may want to try flushing the heater core.

Let me know if this helps.

Joe,

Thanks for responding. I removed the air cleaner and upper fan shroud to gain better access to the control valve. Once there, I could see/feel the valve actuator which appeared to be operating normally with the temp selector control.

I then opted to flush the heater core. Didn't see any amount of sludge, but did find some air in the system when removing the hoses. My coolant levels are fine (both in the tank and radiator), so not sure how it got in there. Regardless, the flush seems to have done the trick.

Hi, the van has an a/c problem, maybe it needs to be replace or repaired?, and now the heater only blows cold air. Is the heater core out, I check the fuses and the heater turns on and blows air but its cold... is this a heater cord problem or what?
Please advise.

The blower motor is under the dash on the passanger side. You need to remove the lower section of the dash and the blower motor cover. Check to see if it is getting power. IF it is, replace the motor. If there is no power, work backwards to see where it is lost. Chances are if it goes on and off, the relay is bad. However, if it continues to work on high, the resister is the most likely problem.
