Hi, my MOT is due at the end of the month but I'm aware of a few problems with it. I'm wondering if you could give me an approximate cost of the things I know need
sorting, and if it is even worth it (I will just scrap if it isn't worth it)
I'm pretty sure the break light switch is broken, ive had the bulbs checked and its not them, and an orange light flashes on the dash sometimes, ive had a look on the web and it seems like its the break light switch. Also my breaks, the pads will need changing, and maybe even discs (hoping not) I also need a front light bulb and I'm not too sure about the tyres, they look ok to me, but then I'm a woman and have no idea! The car runs well and I do a fair few miles every week so it would be a shame to have to scrap - please help? :)

We don't get involved with costs here because there's way too many variables, but what you're describing are normal maintenance items and typical minor repairs. You may need to fix things like that on any car, regardless of its value. The same is true of putting fuel in it. That too is a regular expense unrelated to the car's value.

For comparison, my daily driver is a rusty trusty '88 Dodge Grand Caravan that has been an uncommonly reliable vehicle. If I had to, I would stick much more into it for repairs than it is worth because I've gotten my money's worth out of it many times over.

I've read the term "MOT" before but I don't know what that entails. I know it's some kind of inspection. Put the tires and brakes on it if they're needed. Those are recurring expenses you'll have with any car whether you keep this one or buy a different one. Brake rotors for most cars are very inexpensive compared to 20 years ago.
