heater gage shows that the car is overheating, but the car is not. heat comes on in the car only when the heater gage is showing that the car is overheating. It seems that the unit that regulates the heat is not working. where is it loacated

The two aren't related. I would make sure it isn't overheating. Make sure the coolant is full and the thermostat is working properly. Then you could check the blend air door to see if it is working properly.

the thermostat is new, the coolant is ok, i think there is a tempreture sensor is some where on the car, but i do not know where to find it

Did you check the coolant level in radiator? After replacement of thermostat, was system bled of air? Symptom indicates insufficient coolant in system and this could be due to air trapped within.
