what is the name of the part that is attached to the backing plate of drum brakes where the axle screw attaches for a 1997 VW Golf?

I would call them bolts.
give me your VIN and I will look at the exploded view and tell you what the parts manual calls them.

It's not just screws. This is for the rear of the vehicle where it attaches to the frame. The vin # is 3VWFA81WM078425.
