Help to change out the egr vsv without taking out the old one [!] or jacking/lifting the car.

I need to relocate the egr vsv on my 97 camry - 2.2 4cyl automatic. The help I desire is to locate the correct wires in the harness FROM ABOVE looking in to the engine compartment from a fender. I want to locate the wires - clip them - and run an extension to the fire wall and place my new egr vsv there. I can't get under the car to do this or I'd simply jack or lift it and extend the wires. In short I aim to change out the vsv without taking out the old one! I will just disconnect and rerun hoses and wires.

So are you looking to replace you egr vacuum solenoid?If so why not just change it would be much easier then trying to do what your trying to do.

I can see why my way may seem harder - however, for me it is wise. All parts in the EGR system have been replaced and I need to continue to troubleshoot the system. I am disabled and have no lift or yard to work in - I have to work from over the fender. I want to move the darn thing to where I can reach and work and test. I have your image, thank you. I need to specfically know where to locate the wires in the harness from the top [above]. thanks.

It says the egr vacuum solenoid is on the upper right front of engine.So that would be right on top so no need to relocate it.Also what problem are you trying to diagnose?Do you have any codes?

Your diagram is misleading. I have it in my files too. It doesn't explain you are looking THRU an invisible engine. It is really on the back side where it can not be seen or touched from above. One must pull the right wheel just to get a hand up to it. It is such a simple device - two wires, two hoses - I can put it anywhere. Later models moved it for this reason. I am troubleshooting a PO401 and I want all parts within reach as I continue to work on the system. I've replaced the thing once already. I want to troubleshoot system as its running and working.

Have tested the egr valve to see if it holds vacuum with a hand vacuum pump?Also are you sure you dont have a clogged egr port?
