Try checking the coolant temperature sensor-also try scanning the computer for code/s

You may have a bad temp sensor or air in the cooling system. Bleed the system by filling it up with the heater on full hot. If you have a temp gauage you will have 2 temp sensors. You will be replacing the one that has only 1 wire.

Starting in 1996 the saturn S model went to one sensor for both the gauge and the computer with two wires. But the light flashing means your coolant level is low in the bottle.Check the level.Let me know what you find.
