My 1997 Eclipse will not start. The engine cranks over but there is no spark at the plugs. There is no 12 volts at the coil pack. There is no voltage coming thru the ASD relay. The ASD relay is not energizing because the computer is not creating a ground for it to close. I have read that ASD relays are suppose to activate for a second or two when the ignition is first turned on and mine DOES NOT. Since the ASD relay does not activate does this mean the computer is defective or is there something causing the computer to not activate the ASD relay?
Note: I have tried grounding out the computer side of the ASD relay forcing it to activate and send 12 volts to the coil pack but still no spark.
I have been told the only way to test the computer is to plug it into another 1997 Eclipse or Talon and that no other year model will work.
I can't believe how many people on this site have been replacing all these parts without eliminating the computer first.
After my computer is eliminated then I will start checking sensors and wiring.
Once the computer is eliminated and the ASD relay activates for at least a second or two I will see if the crank and cam sensors are OK.
I understand that if the crank and cam senors don't work properly the ASD relay will shut down.
Please don't post any more generic answers to this question. There's no need to suggest checking sensors until the engine computer is eliminated; therefore, the FIRST question to be answered is whether the computer is bad.
