The Trac Off light came on. The manual says that it is the Traction Control. Is this a major problem, will this affect the engine/transmission?

I have a 2001 ES 300 and the traction light is illuminated. I am reluctant to spend a lot of money on this car as it has 130,000 miles. Please advise how to proceed and what are the possible consequences of not repairing this malfunction. Thank you. Respectfully, tim

Traction control helps you maintain control on wet or slippery roads. As I understand it, the light you're talking about means the traction control system is turned off. This should have no effect on the engine or transmission.
