1997 Infiniti J30 Blower vent doors not actuating.

The blower motor is working OK, but no matter the vent settings all the air is only coming out of the defrost and floor ports. I ran the diag procedure from this post: http://www.2carpros.com/questions/1997-infiniti-j30-cold-air-coming-out-vents-inside-car-heater-turn-on-operating (Thanks for that by the way!) On the 3rd test all the doors except 33 and 39 are displaying error codes. Is there a fuse that could be causing that, or any ideas on what to look for would be greatly appreciated.

There are no individual fuses. The air doors are controlled by electronic actuators that are operated by the control head. You will need to access the actuators under the dash and determine if they are responding to commands. This may be beyond the ability of a DIYer.

Thanks for the response. I tend to be a bit more advanced that the average DIYer, and I can see the challenges in this. but I'd like to take it a bit further if I can. Money is very tight at the moment and it's starting to get very hot out there. So any help you can give me is appreciated.

When you say the control head, are you referring to the controls in the dash or another set of electronics somewhere behind the dash?

What part of the dash do you need to remove to get to the doors?

I'm afraid it's not going t be that simple. There is very little instructional information available on that and most of it will be found by your own exploration. Ya I've been googling for days. That link in the earlier post is the closest I came.

What you posted helps a bunch. I'm thinking I'll try removing the glove compartment. That looks like the easiest to start with. And I've seen instructions for that. I also see ones for the radio, but that looks more complex.

Once I get in it looks like I'm looking for a single motor and a bunch of sensor switches. Should be interesting.

The are a few electric actuators on this system but you are looking for a specific one. The mode actuators are usually on the other end of the housing and not accessible at the glove box end.If it can be accessed, it's usually done from under the dash on the driver's side.

A little, late, but thanks for your help on this.

I did end up taking it to a mechanic and then to the dealership. The dealership started working on it and the door moved, so we got our AC back. But replacement would have been too expensive.

Now we afraid to touch for fear of it getting stuck again.
