What is wrong with my car? blown head gasket?

I have had no trouble with my car until today. Was on the road about 45 minutes, stopped at a store. When I cranked the car back up the check engine light came on. I went to my mom's and had to go back to the store for her after car sat for 2 hours. I noticed white smoke coming out exhaust about 5 minutes on road, then it wanted to run hot. Checked coolant, and filled to hot line. On way back from store, check engine light still on and smoke increased. Got car home, checked oil, was ok, added more coolant. Someone said, blown head gasket. Used Bar Leak per instructions. After letting engine cool, tried again, and white smoke still alot, and noticed liquid shooting out exhaust as well when slightly revved. Please help!, need car to work 40 minutes out of town.

sounds like you overheated it and blew a head gasket. do not drive the car till you have it verified by a shop.

This is the first time it even tried to run hot, and it was AFTER the check engine light. Will it blow the head gasket that quick, really?

Often the reason cars blow head gaskets so easily is that with modern engines you will have alloy heads and cast blocks, with the different expansion rates with an over heat condition the head will warp, (even with all those bolts holding it down) and this will cause a gasket to burn out at the fire ring, cast heads will also bend but they can be a bit more forgiving.
