Is there such a thing as a parking pin in a transmission and if so can it be replaced in a 1997 ford explorer 4wd or is the whole tranny shot. Im not sure if the shops im asking in town just say the trannys toast and want to make a couple bucks off me or if their being honest. My cheap ass friend keeps saying its the parking pin and not the entire transmission. Any words of wisdom?

What is the problem? is it that it is not holding in park?

Actually its making a whirring sound from what I think is the tranny. Whats funny about it is if I push on the gas the sound goes away. When i put it in reverse it will do the same thing but sometimes it just stops abruptly while whirring. The whole time im driving the explorer it never slips or looses power or other telltale signs of the tranny going out but im not a mech a nech so idk. Im really hoping its just the parking pin because im so broke i cant even pay attention. So I guess give me the news good or bad oh wise one.

Once upon a time, long long ago a man named Mr Ford made very good cars, but if he knew the C R A P that they are pumping out now he would turn in his grave, sorry not good news I'm afraid, this will be an internal trans fault, i see may Explorer transmission faults reported her my head spins, just start with a scan and a test and report from a trans specialest, that should not cost a lot, and see what they come up with, but i do fear the worst in this case, i could be wrong and i hope i am for your sake.
