1997 Ford Escort repair question

Hello,

This could happen from a couple different reasons.

-Bad wheel hub
-Bad suspension component, tie rods, ball joints, shocks
-Wheel Alignment
-Improper Installation of bearing

This also could just be a defective bearing. I have seen it happen.

Is it both wheels or just one?

its just the front left bearing that keeps going on me. so what would solve theproblem is replacing some of the compents like the suspension, wheel hub and doing an alignment

Well a couple things you could check out first.

On the drivers side tire, are the tread patterns worn evenly? If not, this could indicate a alignment issue.
A bad wheel hub, if bent, you might hear a intermittent rub of the rotor to the pad. Tie Rod ends are pretty strait forward if they need to be replaced.

You can jack up the tired and pull/push on it to see how much play is in it.

i know i need the outter tierod replaced cause its bent, it sounds like theres a rubbing noise from the rotor to pad but i thought that noise iwas hearing was the wheel bearing, the tire tread has even wear on it and my mechanic did say there is alot of play

Yeah it sounds like its the wheel hub. I would replace that, along with checking the bearing for failure and the tie rod.

A FACTORY DEFECTIVE PART......this happens sometimes

A CHEAP PART......substandard materials and manufacturing

THE RECEIVING PART ON THE VEHICLE MAY BE BENT/ DEFECTIVE/ ETC.....happens

A PART INSTALLED INCORRECTLY......this is normally the situation!

CRAPPY WORKMANSHIP IS NOT LIMITED TO THE GUY WORKING OFF OF CEMENT BLOCKS IN HIS BACK YARD

YOU CAN GET IT ANYWHERE, FROM THE STEALERSHIP ON DOWN TO THE DIYer

BEATING THINGS INTO PLACE---WORKING IN A DIRTY ENVIRONMENT----FAILURE TO CLEAN PARTS----AND AS YOU MENTIONED, TORQUE SPECS IGNORED OR NEVER ATTEMPTED!..........THIS KINDA STUFF IS NOT UNCOMMON

FINDING A "CARING" MECHANIC IS SORTA HARD TO DO SOMETIMES

----RECOMMENDATIONS FROM SOMEONE WHO "HAS NO CLUE" OF "MECHANICALS", ONLY "HE WAS A NICE FELLER" OR "THEY DID IT FAST" OR "HE IS REALLY CHEAP"............SORTA AIN'T THE BEST CREDENTIALS FOR THE MECHANIC WORKING ON THE AIRPLANE YOU ARE ABOUT TO BOARD

...............WELL, THAT AIN'T YOUR AIRPLANE........BUT YOUR CAR IS PROBABLY A BIG INVESTMENT, AND EVEN A SLIGHT, AVOIDABLE GLITCH MIGHT PUT YOUR LIFE AT RISK!

MANY PLACES JUST SORTA SLING THE PART IN (IN AND OUT, MAKE $$$)..........WHEREAS A "MORE EXPERIENCED" GUY MIGHT INVESTIGATE A SYSTEM TO SEE WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE....MAYBE SOMETHING OUT OF ROUND, BENT OR MACHINED INCORRECTLY WHERE THE BEARING FITS IN.....OR OTHER POSSIBILITIES
