I recently installed a distributor in my 1997 dodge dakota truck 4 cyl and it has not run right since. It runs pretty good until it gets warmed up then it starts skipping and back firing then it shuts off and will not crank for a couple of hours.It also will skip if I hit a bump in the road. I thought it might be a defective distributor but I got another one and it does the same thing. The book tells me to put the #1 cyl on TDC on the compression stroke, line up the hole on dis., put the oil pump at 10:00, and put the dis. bracket at 1:00 and turn it clockwise untill it lines up with the bolt hole. When I do this the bracket and the bolt hole does not line up and I have to turn it back just a little bit conter clockwise to line it up. but the truck will crank and run for about 10 min till its starts skipping and back firing. If I put the #1 cyl on TDC but not on the compression stroke everything lines up perfect but the truck will not run at all.What am I doing wrong?
