A reconditioned auto transmission was installed in April 2012.

Since Dec 2012 on the code display below speedometer:
Fail Safe Transmission mode is on, the car drives, but no gear is displayed, it happens frequently.

BMW ( they want the service job) said it could be transmission or a sensor/electronics.

The car runs well in both modes, any ideas?
