The A4 or the A4 Quattro? What size engine? Te oil pump is located inside the engine.

The oil light lighting usually means one of three things:
1: Oil level too low.
2: Faulty oil pressure switch.
3: Defective oil pump.

Oil pumps would not leak unless there is impact damages and you would not see anything if there is pressure leak. A pressure test would have to be performed.

How much oil did you drain out?
