no cant move it at all with engine on or off. could it be the clutch because it sits quite high and doesnt kick in till the last but of release

Not really. If you can't move the shifter with the engine off, it's most likely something bent or broken.

See the attached image. Since the problem is Reverse, I would say maybe the reverse shift fork.

oh ok thankyou so much. when it was in first gear the other day it drive normal no problem with changing to 2nd 3rd etc just i put it into reverse and it wouldnt move back to any other gear. by any chance do you know if it is a big job or really expensive to get thr reverse shift fork fixed?
