oil light on with knocking noise

I have a 96 Saturn SL1 with 105000 miles and been running great, oil light came on and heard moderate knocking noise, down a qt of oil, added that ran fine for a week, now oil level good and oil light back on and knocking again?

Only one quart down won't cause low oil pressure or the engine to knock.So is the knocking coming from the bottom end?Are you sure it was only 1 quart down when you added oil?
