installed new neutral start switch, now car won't go over 20mph

I installed a new neutral start switch in my '96 saturn sc1 last night. Now it won't go over 20mph, and the rpm's jump way up. It's almost like it's stuck in low gear. I hooked all the wires up like they were on the old one. The only thing I didn't do was note where the old switch was in relation to the adjusting slots. Could that be why it's acting up now? If I just move this new one around could that fix the problem?

How did it run before you changed the neutral safety switch?Also any code's after you replaced it.When you replace the neutral safety switch it has to be adjusted with a multimeter.

It wouldn't start before I replaced it. It starts now, it just doesn't run right. I'm not sure on the codes, and I didn't adjust it at all when I put the new one in. I just tightened the bolts down. That may be the problem.

Here is the adjustment procedure you can use when you get that meter.I like to set mine to 2 ohm's or less.Let me know how the car act's after adjusting it.
ADJUST AND FINALIZE ASSEMBLY

Ohmmeter Hook-up


1. Place transaxle in D (Drive). Use ohmmeter or continuity tester to check for continuity across terminals on switch. If no continuity is present, loosen mounting bolts and rotate switch to achieve continuity.
2. Tighten switch to case bolts. After switch to case bolts have been tightened, check continuity.

- Torque: 14 N.m (124 in-lbs)

NOTE: DVM with audible continuity test is preferred. Do not stick probe in terminal hole; use male terminals on switch or faulty readings could exist.
