how to figure out if my timing chain jumped time or what is wrong with my 96 grand am se 2.4l twin cam

i drove it 20 miles from my house and when i parked it was running fine and when i went to go leave and it didnt want to start it sounded like it wasnt firing i checked to see if it getting spark and it was then i checked to see if i was getting fuel and i was now i took the cover to the timing system off and i noticed my timing chain tensioner was broke so i bought a new one and put it on and now it wont run it backfires and then its back to the same thing it was when i tried to leave earlier im stumped

So you replaced a guide or the tenisor?Sounds like it jumped?

the tensioner at the bottom of the motor and thats what i was thinking but i dont know where to set it at

That many miles you should put in a whole timing kit before another part breaks and bends valves.Unless that already happened.
