fuse blowing

While I was driving the other day, my car just shut off. We figured out that the fuel pump fuse blew, so we changed it and the car started working again. Well now, as soon as you change the fuel pump fuse, and try and crank the car the fuse blows as soon as you try and crank it. I don't know what's wrong or *** to fix it. I drive a 1996 Plymouth Neon Highline.

Remove the fuel pump relay, then see if a new fuse blows. If it does not. suspect the pump or the wire to it. At that point you'll have to drop the tank to unplug the electrical connector. Put the pump relay back. If the fuse still doesn't blow, replace the pump.

Do you mean after unplugging the connector at the gas tank? If it still blows, the wire is shorted to ground somewhere.

A trick you can use to save on fuses is to use a pair of spade terminals and jumper wires to plug in in place of the fuse. When the short is present the light will just be full brightness. When you unplug something or wiggle something to remove the short, the bulb will become dim or go out.
