My main problem with this car just started yesterday- I was driving home and pushed down on the gas when my engine just revved but the car didn't accelerate. This happened a couple of times, I get no acceleration but the engine is still revving and the RPMs are going up; I also noticed my odometer is slower to react now.

Another problem I'm having happened a few days ago, I started up my car in the morning and got this weird tapping sound coming from the glovebox area- I popped my hood with the engine running and it is definitely not an engine problem, it is only coming from the inside of the car. I messed with all of my air settings and that didn't change anything...I've had my SRS light on since I bought the car but I don't see how that could be related?

Any help, especially pertaining to the first question, would be sooo greatly appreciated. Thank you!

well I notice my odometer is slow to react...It'll drive and shift just fine for a minute but then as I'm hitting the gas my car just won't accelerate anymore, the engine will rev but the car wont go. if I take my foot off the gas for a second and try again I can get some power but the same thing will happen again in less than a minute. I haven't even tried going highway speed, this has been around my neighborhood going between 20-40 MPH

The engine revs up but the car doesn't respond- could I possibly need a transmission change or a new catalytic converter?

if engine revs i doubt converter is fault. pay attention to what gear it is in when this happens? any dash warning lights on?

No, nothing except for the SRS light. if I had to guess, I'd say this happens in 2nd-3rd gear, I would be able to tell you for sure when I am off work in a couple of hours. Do you think I'm looking at an expensive fix?

have you checked trans fluid level? usually this should be done when in park on level ground with engine idling.

found some info on trans that fits your issue. the reccomendation is to replace 1 way clutch pack/parts. this is actually accessable without removing transmission. is a common problem with these.
