I had my valve cover gaskets replaced. And immediately I could tell something was wrong with the rpms. My truck never does over 2200 rpms. I am doing 2800 rpms at 70 mph. At 50 mph I'm doing 2100 -2200. If I'm set at 70 mph. And take my foot of gas with in 5 seconds it instantly drops 1100 rpms. Keep foot off gas for 2 or more seconds and it drops 500 more the jumps right back up to where it originally dropped to begin with. And it feels like I'm pulling some one with a chain and they just hit their brakes. ~~~ eg: 2800 rpms~ to 1700 rpms ~ 1200 rpms then back to 1700 rpms. Put for on gas again and it goes back to 2800. My question is this... how did the mechanic screw up my timing just by changing the valve cover gaskets? And how bad is it on my truck to keep driving it like this?

take back to who fixed the valve cover and check for a wire disconnected or vacuum line. your overdrive isn't working.
