how to adjust throttle cable 96 geo tracker

whats the problem/

idle has become very irratic suddenly, also slight misfire, rough idle, but i noticed one of the cable clips on the throttle cable was dismounted from its bracket so i reinstalled it along with the throttle cable back to its original position and was amazed at the change of engine function in such a small movement of the throttle cable. The clip seems to be worn out and the throttle cable keeps popping out of the clip. so i will definately be replacing the retaining clips but i was just wondering if there is an adjustment for the cable because i looks like there might be a little bit of slack in it
