I recently inherited a 96 Prizm that I want to use to drive to work 100 miles a day. It has a metal on metal sound coming from the driver's side front. I'm not sure whether it is the CV or bearing. I checked the brakes last week when I replaced the passenger side CV that had an obvious clicking noise when turning. This noise does not happen when turning.

Suspect front wheel bearing/ does noise change tune at all turning or do you hear it just going straight. What I usually do to inspect for bad wheel bearings is to put car on hoist in neutral/ spin suspect wheel with one hand while grasping strut spring/lower control arm with other hand, should feel smooth, if you can feel roughness the bearing is bad. Some bearings bad enough you can actually hear the roughness while spinning. Give this a shot and let me know.

Thanks for advice. I felt it and checked the play one more time. There is play side to side. Thanks again.
